Independence Plan
We believe one's basic needs of housing, food, clothing and safety need to be met before you can move on to accomplish other goals. Our Independence Plan is a step-by-step plan that moves a young woman through basic needs and improves mental wellness before moving into goals and dreams.

Mental Health Phase
Most at-risk and former foster transition-age youth have experienced childhood trauma. If that trauma is left unresolved, they are not able to learn the life skills needed to thrive as an adult and they live in a chronic state of instability. To address this, Blossom Place has added a mental wellness component to our program. After an assessment by our therapist an Action Plan is created for each youth who needs mental wellness assistance. Individual therapy, group therapy, trauma-informed yoga, art, and nature therapy along with other healing activities are provided. Existing community programs are used whenever possible.  Mentors are matched with each youth and healthy relationships formed. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs  defines the process, and a trauma-informed lens is used for all interactions. By processing past trauma, learning new coping skills and finding a new calm our youth are then ready to tackle work, school, driving, budgeting, and other life skills as defined in our Independence Plan.

Life Skills Phase
With a mentor, a therapist and a Blossom partner who acts as case manager alongside her, she will work through education, career, health, transportation and relationship goals. She'll learn time management, budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and parenting skills, all while maintaining habits for good mental health. The ultimate goal is for each girl to have all the pieces of the puzzle in place, and all the skills and the confidence in herself to successfully move on to independent living.

Individualized Plan
Each girl arrives to Blossom at a different point in this process, she may be starting at square one or she may have already accomplished some of the items on our independence plan and have good mental wellness habits. We will work from the point she's at and move forward. This process can take from 6 to 18 months. As long as a young woman continues to work on her plan and move forward she is welcome to continue in our program.
